Should i get my dog a dog?

Short answer? Yes. Let me introduce you to my boys…Biscuit is a 3 year-old Golden Retriever. Leo is a 2 year-old Golden Retriever. They both have the same mom, different dads; however, they act and look like twins!

Biscuit was my very first dog, ever! The puppy phase can be rough – waking up every 3 hours for potty time, chewed up shoes and baseboards, accidents galore. But, I wouldn’t change it for the world. Biscuit taught me to take care of something other than myself. He taught me what it’s like to never have a moment alone (yes, I have Velcro dogs). He also showed me how empathetic an animal can me. I know Biscuit is my soul dog, he absorbs all my emotions, and is incredibly protective. He made me a mom!

When Biscuit was about a year old, I was desperate to socialize him. He did go through puppy training, and he was a tiny bit reactive, but I could tell he wanted to play with other dogs. One night, my husband and I had dinner and we made the decision: Biscuit needs a friend.

Introducing, Leo!! Leo is my sweet baby boy, and Biscuit’s best friend. From the day we brought him home, we knew Leo was going to be a perfect fit to our family, and perfect for Biscuit. Leo is a little daredevil, I have videos of him playing tug with a toy that was bigger than him. He’s also got the “second child syndrome” – didn’t cry much, learned quickly, and didn’t need much training. Leo is my snuggle bug. This time, I knew that the puppy phase would go by too quickly, so I carried Leo around like a baby. Now that he’s 85lbs, he still thinks he can be carried like a baby!

Biscuit and Leo are the perfect duo. They play together all day, sleep together, steal each other’s food, and really truly love each other. When Leo is up to no good, Biscuit looks guilty. They’re in it together, for better or worse! I will never, ever, ever regret getting my dog a dog, it was the best thing we could’ve done for our family. Yes, we are dangerously close to being outnumbered, and it feels overwhelming with 2 goldens are barreling toward you for attention, and when you can’t move 1 foot in the house without 8 paws following you – but I wouldn’t change a thing! If you’re considering it, I say go for it. It’ll change your life, for the better.
